Performing Air Sealing Work Requires Training

The Project ReEnergize program concluded June 1st, 2010 and no further funding is available at this time. Should further funding become available that information will be made public.

Trainings are closed for Project Reenergize Air Sealing.

Project ReEnergize qualified contractors who offer rebates for air sealing attics or attic insulation or wall insulation must hire a Project ReEnergize Air Sealing or Performance Testing trained contractor to:

  1. Perform a pre blower door test according to program protocols to determine leakiness of house before energy efficiency work begins.
  2. Provide attic air sealing work according to program protocols.
  3. Perform a post blower door test according to program protocols to determine leakiness of house after energy efficiency work is completed.
  4. Perform a depressurization test on selected combustion appliances and fireplaces to determine if a homeowner qualifies for a rebate to replace a back drafting water heater.

These four requirements may be performed by the same company or by up to four different companies. Each company used to perform these tasks must be qualified by attending a Project ReEnergize training.

To provide performance testing for Project ReEnergize contractors, specific technical equipment is needed. There is up to a 9-week wait to order blower doors and digital manometers. Therefore, if your company does not CURRENTLY own the following equipment DO NOT sign up for the afternoon performance testing session:

  • Blower door
  • Digital manometer

Trainings cost $50 for both the air sealing and performance testing sessions. Trainings for just air sealing or just performance testing cost $25. Only one employee per company is allowed to register for the trainings. The employee who attends the air sealing training should be a job supervisor or someone who will be on-site when air sealing is performed. The employee who attends the performance testing training should be the one who will actually use the blower door and digital manometer in the field.

Registrations will be accepted on a first come first served basis. You can register on-line at noon or later on Monday September 28th.
