Outdoor Caulking Maintenance

Outdoor caulk around windows, doors, and trim prevents water from getting into places it doesn't belong. Due to exposure to the sun and other elements, caulking must be periodically repaired or replaced.

Step 1: Inspect For Problems

Step 2: Plan Ahead For Maintenance

If repairs are necessary, check with your local hardware store for proper caulking materials and tools. Be sure to choose the right color of caulk. Assemble the tools that you will need and create a safe workspace. Choose a mild, dry day for repairs.

Step 3: Making The Repairs

Scrape away old damaged caulk and follow caulking product manufacturer instructions for proper cleaning, surface preparation, and application. If you don’t plan to do this yourself, contact a qualified home repair company.
